It’s not just the prequels that are guilty of it, there is too much crossover in all of Star Trek. Too many NG characters showed up in later series. Too many ToS characters showed up in NG.

You could potentially have some kind of an ‘internet cache’ for frequently used internet resources. The cache would lag behind realtime earth internet minutes/hours/days but for most purposes on most sites (netflix) it would make local access to those resources latency free.
