I think what you need to do is make college affordable so people can pay for it themselves. This is the same problem with healthcare. Instead of subsidizing 8-10M people why not work to make it affordable so people can pay their own way?

I believe malpractice and crimes are different.

But the title was entirely misleading. Leeching implies accessing the signal without permission.

I think the Big Dig was larger than Seattle’s but I’m sure we learned a thing or two along the way.

The Big Dig was ridiculously expensive and Seattle’s project was stalled for months over a 2 inch pipe no one knew was there. Running highways underground is not without problems here in the NW. First we have tons of rain, not to mention earthquakes. Second we have large bodies of water to the east and west of

I would have said, yeah, on their Pizza. You get to eat pepperoni, but if you continue I’ll order up a Turtle Special from Pizza Hut.

As a former parent, it’s meant to open the door to civil discourse. If you just start off with “you little shit, I saw you stuff that broccoli in your pants”, well it just won’t end well. And of course in public you can’t just smash their face into the broccoli bowl.

that’s because it’s so far away. If it were closer we might see it more clearly.

Interesting take, if true. So a rich guy gets off with a petty (for him) fine? I await the hue and cry from the Jussie supporters that justice was not done here.

He traded community service and his bond ($$) for dropping charges. That’s the bargain here.

At the very least it appears as if Smollet didn’t setup his own hate crime

He did it. The city as much as admitted it. But his community service and forfeiting his bond got him off the hook.

So basically he paid off the city. And they said corruption was dead in Chicago.

It appears they got Km confused with miles. 525 Km is 326 mi.

Though one might argue that with smaller vehicles clearing blockages could be potentially easier. Just build in some side rails so you can move the vehicle out of the way.

Amen to this. I especially like your last 2 sentences. This article is nothing like it would be if this were a conservative writer and everyone here knows that.

When you call people out-of-touch you might want to do a little research so you don’t come off as uninformed. I’ll turn your comment around and ask what good is universal healthcare if the wait time is so long that I die before I get treatment? That’s a great strategy, we will give them free healthcare but they’ll die

That is utter bs. Extreme wealth does not depend on other people living in poverty. This is not a zero sum game. Everyone “can” be wealthy, there’s nothing preventing that.

That’s between him and his loved one. That person probably knew about the soda habit before getting into a committed relationship. How will any soda taxes help the next of kin?

I think you made his point. Even in this study the article noted “it was adjusted for diet and lifestyle factors, which means that the findings may not be absolute depending on one’s general health”. In other words YMMV.
