You’re trying to make the comparison too similar, eg fast checkout lanes and fast Internet lanes. The comparison is price discrimination. It’s not the best comparison, but it’s the one referenced in the article.

What’s funny is that you seemed to have missed the point that throttling et al is no different that using coupons at a grocery store. So why is it that we don’t have free and open grocery stores?

PS - as an aside, I reread the article and noticed that the city has fast-tracked legislation to bypass city regulation and permitting processes in order to get this project started. Now, I wonder if I wanted to come in and build a new business complex if they would bypass those same ordinances? Doesn’t this strike

I won’t go line-by-line but you started your post with “I can’t imagine a non-superficial, non-selfish reason...” This implies that there are no other rational reasons to oppose a project. I don’t think it’s selfish to want to protect your financial assets nor your family. You presume that you can’t protect your

It’s not secure because it would only take 2 people, the ones transporting the ballots, to throw those ballots out the window. We had a situation some years ago in the Gubernatorial race. The count was close and a mandatory recount was initiated. During the recount they suddenly found a couple thousand paper ballots

You’re making an assumption that there is no other option available. Like I said, why put government funded housing in a more expensive location when an alternate location (might) be available that is less expensive?

I think the motivation is similar, some people want to protect their housing values by not having low income housing located nearby, others want to protect their housing values (eg rent prices) by not having wealthy people come in and drive up prices.

The point is, if you read their entire quote, that they have been using this sort of AI for years to spot terrorist and “Last fall, we started using similar tools to extend our efforts to a range of hate groups globally,..”

What I also find a bit ironic if not hypocritical is the anti-gentrification folks are like, you people with good paying jobs are ruining everything for me so I’m going to do everything I can to keep you from enjoying the lifestyle I enjoy here in the city. Now that seems selfish to me.

I wasn’t suggesting that you called me an asshole, but the OP did and that’s what I’m responding to.

sorry...had no idea.

that’s all i was trying to say

First off my post wasn’t “black people do this”. It was here’s a hate filled page on FB and yet FB allows it to continue. So much for the AI and human reviewers.

It’s about them trying to preserve in amber the San Francisco that existed 20 years ago when they bought into the market.

No, it’s not selfish in my opinion. I have every right to protect that which I worked for and own. If you try to steal my car I have every right to prevent you from doing so, even though you may need a car and I might have to hurt you to stop you from stealing it.

Is it selfish to want to protect one of my largest assets, my home? Is it selfish to want to protect my family’s safety?

Exactly.

I don’t think the problem is the specific machine, per se. It’s that opponents to the technology say it can be hacked and there’s no “paper trail” to fall back on if there are questions. But, a counterpoint to that, is what’s to prevent someone from creating fake paper ballots or even stealing ballots and stuffing

You have an active imagination, where did I ever say I was mad about blocking White supremacists? That’s what you wanted to believe. I simply pointed out FB’s statement on blocking pages that promote hate. What difference does it make that this site is fake or not? It’s hate filled and should be removed. The only one
