My guess is that, if the manager allowed the stock to be taken, insurance won’t pay. A quick call from the PD or DA to the owner of record, and the good-hearted manager is overruled, allowing the cops to do what they do best: turn a drama into a crisis.

The moment that it became public that the management was letting them leave with the items and told the police to not interfere, insurance coverage was null and void.

I think you’re spot-on—but the other end of this whole mess is the fact that politicians are, above all other things, survivors. Certain elements within the existing DNC will sort out which way the wind is blowing, and they’ll say and do the right things in order to get elected—and not much will change, overall.
