I don’t know for sure but there was a stupid move pulling Dextropropoxyphene (aka Darvocet-N or Di-Gesic) some time ago, that was an intermediate painkiller between other-the-counter and serious stuff. It was pulled because of suicide and OD risks but now doctors directly jump from paracetamol/ibuprofen to opioids.
