I do have trans friends, and I care about them, and their needs, and their rights. What I (or they, not that they speak for all trans people, of course) don’t give a shit about is what JK Rowling says.

I’d say a lot of Jackson’s choices were centered on dramatic effect more than military accuracy. The Battle of Helm’s Deep in the book is extremely short, for instance, but it had to be a centerpiece of the film. That doesn’t excuse every dumb decision though, like Theoden deciding to take the civilians of Edoras

That’s a bit facile of that teacher. Plenty of Shakespeare’s work was a cliche in its own time as well (that’s why “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” dedicates a whole subplot to mocking lame tragedies like “Romeo and Juliet”). Enjoying Shakespeare isn’t about originality, it’s about the beautiful way that those plays use

He was a scholar, and he popularized the concepts to 20th century literature. But his kings and heroes are built off of Anglo-Saxon literature, his deliberately simplified politics are built off of Renaissance drama, his view of agrarian simplicity is built off of Romantic literature, and his villains are built off of

I wondered where they fit all the stables, and why Osgiliath looked about a 10k run away.

“Why is this movie so long? Doesn’t Peter Jackson know about elevenses? Luncheon? Tea? Dinner? Supper? Second tea? Midnight snack?”

What pissed me off was the fact you had this city that didn’t seem to be supported by any kind of agriculture for miles around.

The only bad thing about Finding Nemo is the number of small children it inspired to bug their parents for a ‘Nemo’ and the damage it caused to clownfish populations.

You should change your name to coolhobbitguy if you can’t do without food for 3 hours.

I don’t know what the tone of the next article is going to be so I just want to get ahead of it and say that the “I need a hero” scene in Shrek 2 still fucking rules.

I know people think the ending was too long already, but RotK loses major points for not including the scouring of the Shire in some form. That’s the best part of the books, and really nails the theme that you can never truly go home again, and no place is immune to the horrors of war. Plus not including Christopher

All efforts at turning Arnie Hammer into leading man material have failed. They do not take into account that his greatest strengths are playing a villain or smarmy supporting character

I cannot imagine paying more than 20 bucks for this. It looks okay, but if the first one is anything to go by, you will be done very, very quickly.

If it were any other place but the AV Club or any other year but this one, I’d wonder why a publication was giving this kind of exposure to such an obvious scam artist.

The eviction “scandal” was such a convoluted train wreck. She made significant alterations to a rental unit she didn’t own and wasn’t paying for, then somehow twisted that into an accusation that Lisa Frank was appropriating the very aesthetic Lisa Frank created years before Mucciolo was even born.

Kim was completely misused and underused. She was given the worst lines and the terrible story arcs.

You could... not watch it.

I agree. I love games that realize that they’re just that. Games. Just do stuff in service of the gameplay and less in service of reality. Both of course have a place, but these days it feels like Platinum and Nintendo are the only ones who really get that part.
Just stuff that’s there because it might be fun and why

This is touching on an overarching problem in general. On one hand you have many franchises and games trying to make themselves more dramatic, more serious, and for lack of a better word, more cinematic, which I think has been successful for a lot of series, but still. And on the other hand, you’ve got franchises

I agree with you here, and it touches on something that’s been bothering me for a while now. I miss the games where ostensibly normal characters were actually outright superhuman. They were normal in the context of their world, but the world was fucking nuts. I know that the vast majority of gaming protagonists are
