I really enjoyed reading this, thank you! Great piece.

I just wanted to mention some of the thoughts I had about it; they’re not intended as critiques and I don’t have any answers to them off the top of my head.

How do we define the “mainstream” of porn? It’s not an original idea that the debates within feminism about

And to think all this might have been avoided if some smarmy fucker had been able to restrain himself from joking about publishing sex videos of minors in front of a jury.

“pivot toward video”
Oh christ.

It’s truueeeeeeee

I see what you’re saying, but the rise of individualist/protestant political philosophy as central in the west is a very long way from the invention of the self!

Wellness-nonsense isn’t the same thing as “medicalization”!

These aren’t reunification talks, though, just talks on ending the Korean war.

What a nuclear-force headline. Bravo.

“Yeah, I made a little oopsie. Hey, life’s like that, right?”

And if you don’t care for the rule of law, my ultra-woke friend, just wait ‘till you see how much fun things are without it!

God, The Void is so much fun.

Excuse you, the Hippies started it.

Ow, I snorted coffee, thanks for that.

Right. There are several theories of atonement. The most popular is not the most elegant, I’d argue. As you say in your first comment, though, as someone who was raised Catholic I grew up reciting a creed that implied that, between dying on the cross and rising again, Jesus was among the dead, wherever the dead are.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to church so I was puzzling over that for a moment too, thinking, “wait, that’s ‘canon’ isn’t it? The harrowing of Hell...”

Edit to add: It’s funny how I instinctively put quotes around ‘canon’ because I’m talking about religion and not nerd-dom, given where the word canon comes from...

Yeah I rolled my eyes pretty hard at that part.

This movie has so many shortcomings, yet how-many years after watching it, being reminded of the ending is making me tear up at work.

No.

I’m not necessarily commenting on whether or not this lawsuit has merit, but... yes, of course it is the responsibility of a business owner to understand the law of the jurisdiction they operate in!

I was goddamn horrified.
