Okay, what planet are you living on where pushing someone off a bridge is a “mistake”? It doesn’t matter that she didn’t intend for it to be malicious, she should have known better.

Well, in this case she did hurt someone, and very badly too. It may not have been malicious, but the fact that her judgment is so poor that she would do this suggests that someone with this weapons-grade-level stupidity can’t be trusted to be in society.

Here’s how that alleged conversation should’ve gone:

Ab’sent

Seriously! Maybe now all she listens to is ‘Baby Shark’, but do NOT put down a great album by a great female artist from a great time period.

Completely agree. Yes her lyrics are rather simplistic but so was ALL OF THE 90s. If we are gonna pull apart Alanis are we going to do the same for Pearl jam? No. This article is wrong. Alanis was a power to be reaconed with and still gets me going all these years later. Just because this author feels embarrassed by

This whole article smacks of internalized misogyny.

Bra-fucking-vo! Spot on! Her take reminds me of the people who take enjoyment from others by denigrating something that they no longer think is “cool”. The sports writer (though his best columns actually aren’t about sports) Joe Posnanski wrote about the time his daughters were watching a parade at Disney World, and

I was 15 when this album came out and it was a god damned revelation to me and my friends. Finally, someone who was as fucking PISSED as we were and not ashamed or afraid of what it meant to be angry.

I’m sorry the person you were when you were younger embarrasses you so much now, but that does not make this album bad, it makes your perspective shallow.

Never! As other people have (rightly) pointed out- even if you don’t like the album, culturally speaking it’s a huge watershed moment, to have this ANGRY woman and it’s totally socially acceptable that she’s pissed off and not being quiet/demure/cute. And that was mainstream!

Thank you. I was like, if this comment thread is nothing but bashing of Alanis...

All those women and their music helped me get through my divorce in 1996.  That music gave me an outlet to harness my anger and know that I was worth more than how I was being treated.  It isn’t crap music at all.  It served a very real purpose for lots of people, and this author is still stuck in the rut of being

Girl. No. This is a bad take and you should feel bad about it.

As a kid that hit middle school a year after this album came out, Jagged Little Pill felt like the first time I had permission to be ANGRY or disgruntled.

Now playing

Gotta disagree hard on this one. IMO Jagged Little Pill holds up as a top 10 90s album. It’s a viscerally angry album and Alanis is SO GOOD at getting her emotions across.

I also wonder if the suicides of the Parkland survivors might have triggered something for him. There is some evidence that suicide is “catching” (for lack of a better word), especially among people who share a common experience, like they do with gun violence. It seems relevant that this occurred right after two

i’m not surprised that after almost a decade of death threats and harassment from insane conspiracy theorists that one of the targets of them decided to kill themselves. and those pieces of shit will use this to say that he was going to come out as a crisis actor and the government had him killed. alex jones should be

This has been bumming me out. The way he got so upset he ran away and now he’s still pursuing her gives me such bad vibes. I really hope she says no means no, but I’m sure she’ll go along with the story they’ve been pushing that it’s romantic for men to obsessively pursue women after they say no. Disgusting.
