I bought my Golf R new in January 2016 and currently 40,865km on it as of this writing and there hasn’t been a single issue with it. I’ve owned 5 VW/Audi before this one, and not a single one gave me an issue.

You won’t regret the Golf R. I bought mine in January and already put on 36,000km. There are a few budget minded upgrades you can make to liven up the chassis and put an even bigger smile on your face (rear sway bar, 034 dogbone insert). The savings and practicality over the S3 are already a big bonus.
