Sophos UTM was astaro years ago. It's technically a UTM, so in addition to routing and firewall capabilities it also handles antivirus, antimalware, email scanning, and more. It's pretty in-depth. The home version is only good for 50 connections. They have hardware appliances or software that you can install on your

Between several cell phones, several tablets, 2 network printers, 2 workstations, a server (files, plex, minecraft, etc...), some rokus, a chromecast, xbox, obi, etc... plus guest devices our basic router was not up to the task and seemed to need a reboot at least once a week. A year ago I replaced it with a used

I'm pretty sure that opensprinkler (pi version) has a plugin that will do that, but I haven't tried it yet. There are also water sensors that connect to smart and dumb sprinkler controllers.

I've used it a few times. We have a fairly large home and I can be on another floor or several rooms away from my phone and I'll still have connection to my phone. The reminder is also nice since I occasionally rush out the door without my phone. Same principal applies at work.

I'd also add that Android Gear doesn't really run apps in the same way that a phone does. The gear is more of an extension of the phone for input and notifications. Some small apps (like calculators) are run entirely on the watch, but some of the better "apps" like maps or IFTTT are merely convenient interfaces for

I'd add Find My Phone to the list (I think that's what it is called). Basically, it will let you make the phone ring from your watch. It will also notify you if your watch loses connection with your phone - "Did you forget your phone?"

As mentioned in the article, Motorola and HTC have really great (and simple) data migration tools to transfer everything from apple to google.

It's about time - this used to be integrated into the main maps app. It was a really big step backwards when they removed it. It is so nice to be able to set up the map on a computer before a trip and have access to it on mobile devices.

I did something very similar. I haven't had a single game or social media app on my phone for about a year now. I was never into social sites so that wasn't tough. When I started beating my kids' scores at Temple Run, I knew it was time to dump the games.

That's exactly how they do it at Salad Creations. I think Subway does it that way as well.

Lights on timers are (barely) better than nothing, but for us a 110lb German shepherd really does the trick. If you happen to have a big dog who barks at strangers (delivery & service people), don't tell them "don't worry, she barks a lot but she's a big coward".

Home security systems tend to say "hey there's

Sorry for the late reply. I'm using OpenSprinkler. It's also been modded to control the garage doors.

I've had one as my primary computer for 10 months. I absolutely love it. I use stand mode a lot during meetings because it's a lower profile and there's not a tall screen between me and the other people at the table. I only get about 6 hours out of it but I'm a pretty heavy user.

Just when I thought Prime wouldn't get any better. Yeah, I love two day shipping. But we buy plenty of things that we don't need in two days (like toner and other supplies). I could probably rack up a lot of video credit - especially if I break up my orders into single items. Might have to look into the fine print on

I use a modified OpenSprinkler Pi. Basically it's a sprinkler controller that's powered by a Raspberry Pi that has full web access. So I have Tasker tasks that send the correct HTTP commands to it. That part is really easy. Since it has a Raspberry pi in it I was able to also connect my garage door controls to its

I've been using this a lot - especially in my car since I have a moto x and I don't have to touch the phone. Some commonly used profiles (Autovoice triggers are in bold):

It's simple. Action > Media > Music Play

After a lengthy search for car mounts we settled on the Kenu 8 month ago. We have one of these in each of our cars and they work great - so I vote for this one. They work with any phone (currently using it for my moto-x) and they don't block your ports and buttons. The grey fingers rotate so you can use your phone

I've been using it on at least one of my computers since the beta. It has always been pretty good on a slate/tablet, but I was reluctant to put it onto a PC or laptop. The mouse and keyboard controls just didn't seem totally intuitive to me (but totally natural on touch screens).

I've found it to be important to set a time limit on an idea. If I'm spinning my wheels on it for too long it goes into an "idea box" and I move onto another one. The box is literally an index card box full of cards with old ideas. If I get stuck again later or need inspiration I'll come back to that box, flip through
