Would it kill you to smile once in a while, poor people?
Would it kill you to smile once in a while, poor people?
Yeah. I was aiming for delicacy but it seems rather rude.
Wouldn’t Anna Wintour wish to see the fashions on the runway?
Seeing her sitting there like that all neat and proper and ladylike just made me miss my grandmother so much I’m ready to start bawling at my desk.
David Brooks in 1964 after the Civil Rights Act passed. “Please show respect to segregationists in the south during this difficult time”. “We all need to allow them to adjust to the removal of the “Whites only” and “Colored only” signs”.
I can’t be the only one who read “Rhode Island’s youngest state senator” in the headline, glanced down to see a video freeze-frame of Paul DiMaio, and wondered “that’s Rhode Island’s youngest senator?”
I also owned a gun that I got rid of (because during my divorce, I thought my alcoholic husband might shoot himself). I liked having a gun to take to the range, and yes, I enjoyed having something in the house that could make me, a 103 lb woman, as deadly as a large man. Who knows if I would have or wouldn’t have been…
With all due respect to David Brooks, I’ll just show him the respect he and gun owners who support the NRA and gun lobby over safety and common sense deserve in my opinion:
Thank you! I posted the hell out of this because so much info is missinge ftom/eluded in the article/post that the impression it’s given is that the facts are different than they are, the charges are/were different than actual, and the status of the case is at a completely different place than the reality. I nearly…
I make pottery and teach High-Schoolers. I had a gun, I didn’t like it because I feared I would use it, and I sold it. I vote every time I can, local, state and national. I don’t necessarily like guns outside of videogames, movies, and museums.
And unless she had unplugged that plug, inserted a funnel, and carefully poured about 50 gallons of water into the hole... I still have zero clue how that plug factors into the guy’s death AT ALL.
And this is why when the police want you for questioning, even if you believe yourself innocent, say NOTHING until your/a lawyer on your side gets there. Noth.ing.
The plea she took does not include an admission she removed the plug in order to harm or kill him. Criminally negligent homicide does not require intention . She basically pleaded to recklessness and carelessness, due to knowing there was no plug, that he didn’t have on a pfd, and that the water was rough and cold.…
Are they calling the hatch cover when you stow your gear the “plug”? I’m trying to picture just WTF they’re talking about, I’ve paddled many a kayak and never seen one with a plug you could simply remove to make the boat sink.
This site takes some sort of glee in willfully misrepresenting this case.
For those curious about the kayak, it’s the blue one in the following picture. The plug is the tiny black spot at the left end (aft) just beyond the lanyard. Not clear from this picture is that the cockpit is not sealed from the rest of the hull. Forward of the seat opening is open to the entire hull, including the…
So, my husband and I kayak, and I really do think she was steamrolled. Honestly, neither of them had any business being out in a couple of playboats on the Hudson at night after having downed multiple beers. He should have been wearing a wetsuit and a PFD, and he was wearing neither. The kayaks they had were for…
I’m convinced that the prosecution used her emotional state and the fact that English isn’t her first language to railroad the woman.
