Heat shrink tubing ($2 at radio shack) makes all the difference between the end result looking professional, or like a turd. Also, you can expect RF interference to go thru the roof when using cut-down cables, since you typically have to strip off the outer coax coating to get at the innards. One way around this is

Do whatever you think is best, and don't buy into any of this "you must spend X month's salary" BS. Also, you should consider non-traditional settings, using metals such as titanium instead of gold or silver - they're cheaper and a lot more durable.

Apparently, you can just work for the News of The World, and they'll arrange for you to disappear, no questions asked.

When you get a pay rise, just keep on living the same life you've been living, and save the extra.

Here's what I use a lot. Free unless price listed...

Network attached storage. Modern routers will support a USB external drive, or you can buy a dedicated box. They can be a bit slow though, depending on your wireless speed (g vs. n etc.)

There was nothing obvious about it at all. In many other businesses, economies of scale result in lower pricing (e.g. the DRM free MP3 you can now buy from Apple is much better than the old DRM-loaded, lossy AA4 file from 5 years ago, but costs the same).

If what you do with the money you save, is shove it in a "high" interest savings account (the best online rates are currently about 1%), then the answer is NO, frugality does not pay! With inflation running anywhere from 3% upwards, your savings are actually losing money.

If only the headline were actually true. The field of resveratrol research is "full of noise". There is a lot of "hope" pinned onto such molecules, and sometimes the fundamental properties of the molecule get forgotten in the rush to publish something cool. What's cooler than a pill which extends lifespan or negates

But isn't Borax just the same stuff they put in commercial ant killers and baits anyway? Just because you make up the solution yourself doesn't make it any more "natural".

Forget the Swiss army knife. A very very sharp knife, with a decent 6-8" blade, the shank of which extends back all the way through the handle, is way more useful. A little picky 2" blade which folds up on itself at a moment's notice will be no good to you, as will the toothpick etc. A decent blade can be used for

What's more of a mystery, is how stars are taken away. I had one, and I guess I offended someone, so they took it away. No notice, no explanation, just logged in one day and noticed it was gone. Very arbitrary and has some other users really riled. Transparency in the star removal process would be good!

Timbuk2 netbook messenger. Solid, and reliable

I'm not a big Apple fan either, and actively avoid their laptops whenever possible. Having said that, I am frickin' loving the iPad. One reason... it's an iPad1 and I got it right after they launched the iPad2, so paid only $300 on ebay for the 64GB version (less than half price for a 1 year old device).

Sugru is just awesome in every way possible. My favorite use so far is improving the strain relief grmmets on cables, chargers etc, especially those of a certain company who makes things in white.

Yeah, I have to say, if you didn't know at already, you shouldn't be driving at all, let alone at night. Reminds me of the old joke about the mother-in-law driven around with the left indicator on all the time.... She thought the little stalk thing by the steering wheel was a hook for her handbag.

Disagree on the amount cited for the UK. Tip is 1-2 pounds regardless of overall amount. Sometimes for restaurants, very rarely for taxis or haircuts, and never ever ever for services such as plumbers, electrical. An annual tip for garbage workers is appreciated, but not necessary.

Sorry, but that picture looks horrible. Why would anyone want to deface their kindle like that? Just buy yourself a regular LED keychain light at the hardware store for $2.
