We have a similar but different solution... plug the USB dongle for the wireless mouse into the USB port on the right side of the wired keyboard... less than 10cm away from the mouse (I'm right-handed).

Brilliant!

Mother Jones mag' has some articles on similar devices built using that double-foil-sided foam insulation stuff. The principle here is just that the soda cans increase the surface area for heat generation from solar radiation. You can achieve pretty much the same effect by building the box and placing a large sheet of

Been using this stuff since last year, when they launched it - they totally underestimated demand, sold out in 1 day, then spent 6 months trying to build their capacity to re-launch. A few notes on its use...

@AtomFury: And you don't have to put Sugru in the oven to set it. That can be a problem for example if you chose to fix something with Fimo and it got melted in the curing process.

@bornonbord: It is very safe. Chemical regulations in the UK (where it's made) are stricter than the US. Europe is way ahead on things like banning BPA, banning PVC in children's toys etc. If this was toxic, it wouldn't be for sale.

@thinkerer: Another common issue with these things is their current ratings are typically not very high, and usually related to price (the cheapest wall-wart will deliver the least current). Just because the voltage is correct, don't assume the wart has enough beef to actually deliver the current. Some devices which

@dcelzinga: We do the probation thing too... there's a box in the closet, and anything we think might be destined for goodwill gets put there. Then every few months we go thru' the box and decide what to keep. If anything hasn't been thought about for a few months (let alone actually used) then it stays in the box and

Camouflage in the ironic sense of the word? (i.e. you hide something, then shove a bloody great big apple sticker on it to advertise what it is)

You forgot the #1 thing...

Say what now? You want my money, to help pay for a disaster caused by one of the biggest corporations in the world.

@jw: There are 2 systems, GSM (ATT, T-Mobile etc.) and CDMA (analog - Verizon/Sprint). The US and a few mid east countries have good CDMA and not so good GSM. The rest of the world (esp. Europe) has excellent GSM. VZW has a good chart listing other countries that use CDMA. Everyone else uses GSM. if you have a

Pretty ridiculous article. More in the spirit of "it can be done if you want to be a PITA at the checkout and spend 5 hours a day scouring for coupons" rather than "it's easy and sustainable long term".

This site...

@kl0an: I agree with you that 4WD is not necessary. Hence using the term "preferred". Hell, FWIW I used to drive a miata in the winter here with snow tires on. Having now paid a lot for repairs on a 4WD car, I won't be buying 4WD next time.

@timgray: YMMV. Especially with cars. Here in the great white north, where we get 5 months of snow (and salty roads), cars have a lifespan of about 5 years before they start crapping out, so we basically have 2 options...

@SigmundTheSeaMonster: A mini-micro brewery. So that would be a nano-brewery then? Congratulations, you just invented a new kind of brewery (AICMFP).

@sdn: I can understand the frustration, but c'mon, is a buck a track really that bad? Years ago it used to be $15 (plus local sales tax) for a CD at the record store, so to be $10 an album is still a bargain compared to the 600+ CDs in my collection.
