This is a movie about a strong protective brave powerful man taking care of a weaker female. There is a reason why they made it about a parent/child to try codify that dynamic and hide it under something societally acceptable, but ultimately this is a movie about how great Casey Affleck is.

Your idea of relatively non expensive is hilarious my friend.  And a big part of the problem esp in a place like NYC is that most people are renters and almost all are apartment dwellers who may not have that kind of power over their living space to install whole house stuff like that.

I watched episode 2 about the disabled man and the first thing I sent to a friend/neighbor about it was “If I had seen this before I lived here I would have thought this felt so fake and made up, but I’m fucking sobbing because it feels so real”.

I reject the assumption that “bonded for life” means you have to have like... a daily friendship exchange with someone. I’m bonded for life with people I haven’t talked to in years. There are strangers I’ve met out at a bar that I feel like I bonded to for life even though I’ve never seen them again.
