Well yeah, but then you watch the crash-test of a 2002 Volvo XC90, and then the crash-test of a 2018 Ford Explorer, and you start thinking that actually, there might be some cars that are a good deal “safer” than others.

(Hint : it’s not about a car being more modern than another. I’d rather get hit in the 16 years old

They are still top-dogs in that category, but the difference between them and all other brands has shrunk quite a bit.

Good to know : ever since the XC90 went on sale in 2002, not a single one person died in one in the UK. Not sure about the figure for the US, and it probably tells as much about the kind of demographic

And you’re deluding yourself if you think that’s enough to avoid an accident.
A good driver still very much risks to be the victim of a car accident, there are situations were you cannot do anything. If you’re shuttling around your children, you probably don’t want to take any chance and buy the safest car you can

Evidences are easy to find, look up accident statistics : most of them are caused by young men. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what kind of driver is also most likely to think they have everything under control and they are able to control the car going as fast as they please.

Not saying distracted driving

Pretty sure the white coupe of the header image is not so much a Renault/Daihatsu mix, but really more a PSA/VW mix.

Specifically, I see a hint of facelifted Peugeot RCZ in the general silhouette and the headlights, Peugeot 208 3doors for the greenhouse, and VW Golf/Polo for the grille.

Maybe a few different Nissans

Wait. The Bolt is still coming as the Ampera-e in Europe ? I thought that plan was scrapped after Opel got sold to Peugeot-Citroën ?

Hello have you seen any american car of the same era ?

Haha, so do most of us. Better be aware of it though.

I have a hard time putting up with bullshit like “speeding is not the problem if you can handle it”. Those who think they can drive so much better than most anyone else are full of it.
Most accidents I know of weren’t caused by a soccer mom in a minivan doing 70 in a

OP included.

What ? Opels have the steering wheel in the exact same position as vehciles in Northern America. They don’t sell Opels in the UK, you’re thinking of Vauxhall (which is exclusive to the UK).

I get that, but you can’t say “save the wagons” while advising against buying one of the few wagons available now... otherwise, none will be offered at all.

The V60 is sweet, but decidedly more expensive than the Regal/Insignia. If you want to stick within a 25K budget, there’s not much else. Except the Golf

English isn’t everyone’s first language.

That should seriously be COTD !

How exactly would it be logical from the French Government’s point of view ?

What is ? It sounds like you are talking about the Arteon, in which case you got two of those right : it is more premium and more expensive than the Passat, but it’s not smaller. Quite a bit larger on the contrary.

There was a plug-in hybrid GTE model too, but it had to be re-tested to be made compliant with the WLTP regulations this summer, and since an updated version is coming early next year, VW decided to not bother having it regulated for just a few months.

Are you mad ? It’s splendid !

Oh, enough with the excuses already ! If you say you have 25K to blow on a wagon, put it where your mouth is and buy the friggin’ Buick !

Better that than hoping for a hypothetic V40 that would maybe come under 30K in 5 years if enough people buy the more expensive ones... That’s bullshit.

And newsflash : the V40 is

Wow, I just saw how far forward the little trim thingie that delimits the rear window is, and now I can’t unsee how SMOL the rear window is.

Sounds like trying to find an excuse to not buy one. Come on ! Just put some glue on the Satnav screen surround, throw some glitter and voilà ! It doesn’t look so plain anymore and you can get one !
