People who write about film for a living—particularly the Very Online ones, like the entire AVC staff—generally think movies and TV shows have a way bigger impact on people’s lives than they actually do.

Idk, I mean with Serena “clapping heavily” in response, I don’t think Campion needs to apologize to her, at any rate. Twitter users are loud, but I imagine (and I of course have no way to prove this) that a large majority of Black viewers had no problem with her statement. I kinda doubt that Campion wouldn’t have made…
.
This is dumb and she shouldn’t have to apologize. It was a random thoughtless joke that was very obviously not intended to “devalue” anyone, Jesus Christ
Lol, there were, by morons. “Fat Darth Maul” was trending IIRC.
There were similar complaints with Darth Maul in Solo—it’s gotta be hard to meet fan expectations of live-action head shape when the animated heads are so stylized and angular!
Supply and demand. People are willing to pay more to see The Batman in theaters than they are for the other films, so theaters charge a bit more. So what? It’s not like this is insulin we’re talking about. This isn’t a moral outrage.
If we’re making sequels to Will Smith movies that start with the word “I”, I’d have preferred I, Robot. But still looking forward to this! I’ll never say no to a legacy sequel.
Yay!! I love it when this sort of thing happens. Do Liam Hemsworth next!
Genuinely happy for Tom Holland for avoiding the “MCU actors are only profitable when they star in MCU movies” curse.
Yeah it’s a deleted scene, I’ve def seen it on YouTube. Can’t find it anymore though.
BOOO SKI JUMPING RULES THO
I didn’t love either of the TASM movies, but I do think it’s weird how the “elite” consensus became that both were extremely mediocre and forgettable. I thought both were quite well made, the second one just had a little too much setup for future installments that we never saw (at least not yet). (And that downer endin…
A D’Angelo A!!
The BFG is one of those movies I respect a lot more than I actually enjoy. Like David Ehrlich said, it’s hard to imagine anyone making a better (faithful) feature-length adaptation from the same source material, considering how little plot there is in the book.
I don’t watch this show, but this is a reasonable mistake to make! Everyone is being stubborn.
Now that, I can buy. But yeah, a lot’s changed since the mid-2000s.
Also it’s kinda weird to ask gays to publicly announce what kind of people they like having sex with in order to be eligible for certain roles, imo
Yeah, plus, are gay men really having a disproportionally hard time finding acting jobs compared to straight men, because of their sexuality? Like, come on.
Respect to Sorkin for saying what he believes and not giving into the Twitter mobs. The “only gays can play gays” trend (among others) is so dumb. (And yes I’m gay so I’m “allowed” to have an opinion on the matter)
