Having driven an M235i with the 8 speed, I can fully agree with you. The shorter ratios make for more shifting and more fun, plug great blips for downshifts and lightning quick up shifts.

Don't know why so many here dislike the ZF8 gearbox. Every review I have read or seen says it doesn't make sense to even use manual gearboxes on these modern day cars. The idea is to shift fast, and focus on the road/track.

That is so wrong. I was like that until they killed the old SMG (which was horrible). The DCT is great and I daily drive my m4. There's no way I want a manual for that. the M3/4/5/6 are all supposed to be great cars for everything, not just track monsters. Maybe the m2 is a bit more track focused but having an option…
