I always imagined it to be a lot like socialist realist literature. If you come to it with traditional ideas of what novels are supposed to be, it will be intensely terrible. But if you understand it in the context of the society that produced it, and what that society expects literature to be, then…well, it won't

My main problem with Section 31 as a storytelling device is that we only saw them three times, and each time they were doing something completely different. First they were doing state security work, checking out disloyals, then they were planting a mole in an enemy government, which is shady but fairly normal intel

That's something I never really noticed for the longest time, mostly because all the shows are told from Starfleet's perspective so everything seems natural. It was a bit of a shock when I read the novel Articles of The Federation, which depicts a year in the offices of the Federation presidency, that I noticed

@avclub-618fd0370047b25592c8a7db0ff8a9c0:disqus: Funny thing is the writers were originally going to call it the "Grey Order", but then thought that sounded a little too Babylon 5-y.

I'd agree with you, but I'd also like to mention Garak's personal opposition to the Dominion as a factor in his actions.

Werner Herzog would've hired 8,000 men to pull that train straight up the mountain and down the other side.

Guys, guys, don't argue about how violent the world is right now! When you do that, Billy Corgan wins.
