I fully believe that Hersh has to have some sort of redemptive moment (his creepiness all of the time ever suggests this is unlikely) or the Machine really is the most benevolent god of all time.

Yeah, that's mostly my read of it too, I just thought it was an interesting touch that he went through the act of shutting the cage door and bolting it, but leaving it unlocked. Like he was trying to test her sincerity, but it would seem like her actions already went most of the way in proving that.
Did anyone else think it was kind of weird that Finch still shut the cage on Root when she came back to her digs? He didn't lock the door, but he did bolt it. So rude.

A-. They handled everything well, but the kiss really was out of place. Without that particular poorly delivered curve-ball It would be an A.
Also Root appears to be along for the revenge ride, for some reason (she's armed and alongside the team in two of the shots in the promo). I don't know how they'll explain lettering her out of the cage and giving her guns, but I look forward to it 'cause the more Root the better.
