I think it may be both. Not saying CM wants to leave but maybe he wants to be scaled back. Dude has a whole bunch of movie projects going on.

Because couples that stay together have nowhere to go in terms of a story arc. It's just not as interesting for them to stay together. If they stayed together happily ever affter—-then what? And also, it is probably because CM wants more time for his various movie projects.
