I think the 2ch person, hits the nail on the head. I’d love to think it was some kind of positive shift in the culture in creating likable but also 3-dimensional women who are just as integral to the main characters growth as the villain.

They didn’t change Ultraman into a robot. The concept of the manga version of Ultraman is that they no longer turn into the same size to fight Kaiju monsters. Instead all the monsters and Ultramen are about the same size as people. The robotic look that you see is a suit that they wear to access/manifest their powers.
For the uninitiated, this is based on the ongoing Ultraman manga that started in 2011. It’s an alternate sequel to the original live action TV series where the titular Ultraman is the son of the original’s host, wearing a special suit of armor that grants him additional superpowers.
