Probably what happened is that snow was all on the roof. When he slammed on the brakes it rained down over his windshield. I’ve had this happen to me but I was on a residential street where I could pull over and remove it.

I was driving down a residential street (no lines and zero traffic) and slowly swerved to avoid a massive pot hole in my lane. I get back into my lane and a cop immediately pulled me over and lectured me that what I did was wrong and he said “no one can ever swerve to avoid a pot hole. That is illegal.” o_O

I always back into a parking space, yes even if it's busy. My car is lowered and tiny and it's much easier for me to see out the front and pull out then to risk backing out and getting demolished by a passing vehicle. You can wait an extra 2 seconds.
