Don’t click the link, kids.

You seem to be mistaking the mostly urban campaign against the rebels with the campaign against ISIS.

killing more noncombatants is the answer???

“...dropping its load of “dumb” munitions from a high altitude.”

But the charm was the stealth. We toss that term around generically now, it was a huge deal then.

They were big bombs. And being laser guided, they could be placed on target. For heavily defended installations, that you’d need stealth to get to, that’s a good deal. The F-117 would not have been a good choice for dropping 500 pound dumb bombs on tanks, etc.

Source?

From the perspective of a guy on the ground for the PGW, the success of the F117 that first night really amped up the guys on the ground. We all understood that the difficulty of ground offensive would be driven by the relative success of the air war. The success of the F117 and TLAMs deep into Iraq in the first few

I was the same age, we lived in Riyadh for a few years, and were home for the summer when the first shit went down, and never went back. My dad went home to get our stuff and has a variety of missle shrapnel, SCUDs etc. I think we were in Cyprus in Jan, I remember school closing for a couple days when bombs were

Your typical bomb mission consists of two targets: the primary target is the reason you’re going out there in the first place; and the secondary (since you’re already out there, might as well smack something else if the circumstances permit it). Stay over any longer than that, the locals will get too savvy about all

What I think is most amazing about the F-117 is that its avionics was particularly primitive, “spares” from the F16, no radar, inertial navigation, etc. It was single minded and hyper cost effective bomb truck.

Two things I picked up from the Osprey book I mentioned earlier: the Iraqis could see the tankers on station in Saudi Arabia, but they couldn’t see the planes those tankers were fueling. They began timing their AAA to light up at a certain time after whenever the tankers did this because it meant the F-117s had tanked

It WAS going to be the Comanche, but that’s another advanced weapons program that got cancelled about ten minutes before full-rate production was about to begin — after all the tens of billions had been spent on development and flight testing of course.

Do you actually read and like to know facts?

I’m confused as to why you are mad at Obama and why having ballistic missile platforms in the EU even matter, or has to do with the s-400 platform? We can end Russia anytime we feel like it military, and Obama is absolutely crushing Russia via economic warfare as we speak. Which is how you always beat Russia.

Look up Aegis Ashore. I’ll wait.

We turned back 6 years ago. The ABM shield we have is designed to counter a limited strike by a country like Iran or North Korea, maybe Pakistan or China (for now). The original Bush plan was to counter Russia but its not like we got rid of our ABM capability completely.

Oh really? Didnt know. But most of those countries dont have the economic capabilities to field these weapons and Poland and Czech are some of the best allies ive served with who spend what they can on military resources. They know what Russians are like, and theh love their autonomy now. The only good thing to come
