Thanks for the article on this event Tyler. It didn’t stay in the news cycle for very long but I found it to be a strking event for two reasons: 1) The decision makers involved were apparently willing to accept collateral damage. 2) The specific ROE was disclosed publicly and upfront.

I think you are right in that the stolen money has resulted in a lot of in-fighting already. I think we’ll find out that a lot of it is going to Pakistan/Afghanistan to try and muscle in on Taliban and AQ affiliated groups there - but a lot more of it is going to end up in northern Africa where the money will buy more…

In 2014 brent oil was going for over $100 a barrel. An artificially high price like that would mean anyone selling (including the US) would hypothetically make a lot of profit, right? Which “the gas deal” are you talking about?

Economists (both Western and Russian) are now saying that Russia is going to have burned through it’s major reserves by the end of this year. Much sooner than anyone had previously been guessing.
