This is so incredibly ignorant. Plenty of software companies release older versions of their IP under freeware licenses. You do not lose a claim to the IP, just because you offer a freeware version.

250,000 signatures does not equate to 250,000 interested people. As others have said, it is sadly quite difficult to get people to sign a petition.

If it would not be cost effective, then offer the DBC, map files, etc as freeware. Make everyone happy. OR hire the Nostalrius team. Seriously, people have done all this for free. Blizzard could just demand access to the material that others have created for various expansions.

Then explain how Nostalrius alone had 150,000 active accounts and explain why Nostalrius and other free to play private servers are in any way a threat to Activision/Blizzard.

Blizzard is profit gouging, at the very least. Kotaku is busy making excuses for them.

I’m not really a player anyway, so I’m not being ignored. But many are. And if you want to argue that it’s a trivial amount, what is Blizzard losing by allowing people to run legacy servers?

So you are saying that the number of people who are or want to play legacy is inconsequential?

Luck of being one of the first on the scene. Having a name in the business can, sadly, often provide you with more customers than a good product, but clearly that’s changing.
