It was absolutely, unquestionably, unarguably a demo. You don’t have a beta five minutes before the game releases and weeks after it has gone gold. 

“You fight a lot of robots” isn’t really the greatest criticism. “You fight a lot of robots with a mediocre combat system” is the actual problem.

However, in these days, people hear “beta” and think “demo”.

A “beta” that close to launch is just a server test. I think a lot of the criticisms of the beta were pretty fair, obviously comment threads go wild with this sort of thing now, but the monetization seems... a tad much. Hopefully the endgame ramps up better than what the beta offered.
