Yes, it is best to be prepared for this weather, especially in places where this sort of thing is common (famously, Buffalo), but lets not forget that most people lead very busy, messy lives. Before we start denigrating people for not having snow tires or adequate emergency supplies, remember that every city contains

Yeah, one of the requirements for the Next Generation Delivery Vehicle has been giving letter carriers something approaching the safety features that a consumer would expect from a light truck today (the technical basis for the LLV is a 1980s S-10).

I don’t think this crash or the photos of the aftermath are a sign that these LLVs are safe.

Snow/winter tires are in issue. I spend a lot of time all around the Buffalo, NY area and its like anywhere else in the country. At most 10% of people put on winter tires. Majority just go with all-seasons, and a good 10% or more have tires with so little tread they are not safe in any condition, let along snow.

No, no they are not tough, they are literally a tin can filled with rust here in Michigan. And as someone who was right behind this accident as it happened what the article doesn’t tell you is that the speeds traffic was traveling both directions were less than 40mph closer to 30mph due to white out conditions.

Not cold hearted at all. My thought was, “You have to be one dumb SOB to drive in a blizzard like this one if you absolutely do not have to do it.”  The only thing dumber is doing so and not being prepared for the absolute worst.

I worked with a guy who grew up in N. Dakota and he told me about the winter survival gear that everyone carried in their car. Made a lot of sense.

Stuff I have in the back of my car during winter:

snow chains
blanket
rope (thin and thick)
medkit
axe
complete set of tools (hammer, wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, you know)
gloves
bottles of water
flashlight (rechargeable using usb - usb 12v charger)
a real spare wheel (“why waste so much space in your trunk - well if I

This was my first thought as well. Since most head-ons are partially offset, a RHD vehicle is exactly where you’d want to be.

First off, uh holy shit. Secondly, I bet it was because the postal truck is rhd

It would be interesting to see the After-Action Report, or AAR. How many of the stranded vehicles had winter survival kits? How many had proper winter tires? How many of those drivers absolutely had to be on the road? Was their enough media blitz warning against this (through FB, social media, TV, radio, etc.)? If so,

You’re going to do another article about how they ruined the economy, right?

The best way to avoid this kind of traffic is to support a locally-owned chicken place that serves tastier food, is likely owned by a member of your local area, and doesn’t publicly, proudly discriminate against the LGBTQ community.

How did you fix a cracked frame as a kid? I don’t know too many kids who can weld. Props to you if you were one, but that’s not common. Every kid should definitely know basic maintenance of the “wearable” parts, but a frame should be built to last.

When I was younger my bike was recalled for the handle weld failing and coming off. I really did not weld well at 7 years old.

I did the same thing as a kid, but I’m no longer a kid and the point here is that this junk is not repairable. This isn’t just disposable kid bikes that get outgrown in a summer, anyway, there are a lot of bikes in adult sizes. The newer crop of trash uses plastic where even a cheap POS should be metal. There are

More riders obviously means more bike repairs, but the problem is budget bikes are breaking too often too soon and aren’t actually repairable.

I raced Huffy’s and later Redlines in BMX back in the early 80's and those things were ultra-heavy but they could not be broken. I think the worst I ever did was bend the seat stem. This was jumping, landing and cranking the hell out of the pedals every weekend and leaving it leaning against the side of the garage

Interesting, when I was riding bikes as a kid, the bikes proved more durable than my bones. (mid 2000s)

I guess asking for anything but Rap/EDM out of ROCKSTAR is basically like hoping for any kind of single-player content out of them at this point.
