As soon as he mentioned “the backside of water” my face lit up like a firework.. I wasn’t expecting skipper jokes, but knowing that they’re in it makes me want to see the movie so much more. I’m glad there’s at least one scene that pays tribute to the ride.

I will go, children in tow, expectations set low... and most likely thoroughly enjoy it and accept repeated viewings as it becomes an addition to the family favorites list (see: Jumanji Welcome To The Jungle)

To be fair, at this point pretty much every franchise (Star Trek — including TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT; Star Wars; Marvel; all the DC ‘verses; Riverdale; etc) story is industrialized fanfic.
