I’ve sworn off biopics, because they are never as good as documentaries on the same subject. I’d rather just watch the documentary.

It’s weird for stuff like Mean Girls where a substantial portion of the audience very likely did not know it was a musical when they bought their tickets, but everyone knows Wicked is a musical, right? I’d guess showing off all the drama/talky stuff in the trailer is their way of saying “You should consider watching…
The last few specials haven’t been that great. They feel like the kind of thing that billionaires who’ve gotten old and lost touch with what “the kids are on about” would write. I don’t see any of these “specials” outliving their small cultural moment.
I thought of the Russian movie as well. Which was more Urban Fantasy then Sci-fi but whatever
You forgot Apocalypse Now, The Godfather, The Godfather II, and The Conversation. But sure, just point out the bad movies in his filmography as being representative of his entire career.
So...hearing a bunch of Defying Gravity wasn’t enough to clue you in?
Trailer looked like absolute, paint-by-numbers dogshit. Pass.
Yes, but the tried and trusted way of dealing with that is to try to be as neutral as possible. You don’t need to be that effusive to “keep on getting jobs”. It’s not like Coppola is going to hire her again.
IKR. As I was reading the article I kept thinking “I don’t recall seeing Coster-Waldau in that Russian sci-fi film.”

Did we watch the same trailer, because the songs were featured heavily.
Yeah, the allegations that he’s choosing to use an old school/analogue way of making a film rather than a quicker digital shortcut...is that supposed to upset me?
With regards the kissing - if people say it was inappropriate, I’ll believe them.
I thought for a second this was a sequel to the Russian films and got excited. Meh.
They need to stop having the audacity to make music biopics when Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story exists.
Amy Winehouse was extremely popular when she was alive. “Rehab” and “You Know I’m No Good” were all huge hits, and she had many other well known songs including “Back to Black” and her cover of “Valerie” with Mark Ronson.
Back to Black is a really good album, you should check it out.
The documentary Amy was good, so I’ll probably stick with having seen that.
Besides being a cliche, a line like “I ain’t no spice Girl” is pretty ironic given that the Spice Girls’ movie - for all its many faults - wasn’t an anonymous biopic.
In London, posters for this film have been graffitied so they read ‘Back to Whitewash’
