The Honda Accord coupe that emerged around the same time was VERY similar in appearance and could be had with a much more powerful V6. It sealed this version of the Cougar’s fate. I also think at that point FoMoCo wasn’t willing to redesign it.

Considering I put a supercharger on my 2005 Mustang and before the warranty ended and KEPT the warranty (including the blower — Ford Racing) I think I came out ahead thanks to advancements made over time.
