Sheesh, dude’s saying his ‘13 Sonic? 138 hp?

Y’all didn’t mention that GM forced electric trollies out of existence because GM was a bus manufacturer. Electric trollies didn’t pollute like a diesel bus...

I worked for a kitchen cabinet manufacturer and loaded and unloaded trailers for a while. Our people loved when we’d get a trailerload of cabinet doors and face frames from Virginia because the driver would turn of the reefer unit while we unloaded the trailers.

I’d rather a 2013 with 64k over a 2017 with 99k if they’re the same model and same price.

You “did it right” alright!

You “did it right” alright!

I expected the massachusetts plate to have something about massholes on it.

Where I live, there isn’t even an emissions test on any vehicle. If a vehicle smokes and is seen by a cop, it might be pulled over but it’s more likely that a vehicle will be stopped for a burnt taillight bulb or license plate light (personal experience).

No bueno. VR6 or not. I’ve been victimized by a MKIV Jetta. Completely soured on VW as a result. Electrically fragile, mechanically dubious. Run. Away. Fast.

A woman came into my office a couple weeks ago, she drove a Volare wagon. I used to own an ‘80 Wagon. I asked her if hers was a 6 or an 8. She said it was a six with a manual transmission. I was impressed. She said that her husband and his dad had restored the car.

Six grand. Yeah it isn’t 100% perfect. No A/C, complicated vacuum system and so on.

Here are the things I see that are wrong about this build.

One injector pump will cost $1900, at least. When I had my Jetta, I replaced two. I’ll pass. $4500 is just the starting point, your wallet will never be the same.

We have CR-V’s, three of them. 98, 99 and 01. They’re not really powerful. This turbo modified one is beyond overpriced.

I’m a veteran of the MKiv Jetta wars. The CP is strong on any 2001 VW. If I had bought a new car in 2009 instead of a used 2001 Jetta TDi, my five years of ownership would have cost less than the injector pumps and transmissions. We put as many miles on our Hondas with no major mechanical failures.  I’ll never buy

Had one. Nope. Don’t do it. My 01 TDi was a money pit. Fun car to drive but maddeningly wallet emptying. 2 Injector pumps, 3 transmissions and plenty of small German designed parts to replace.

Clarkson said an enthusiast should own an Alfa so they know the suffering... I think he meant own a 2001 Jetta. Other comments were spot on.

Excellent video. When I was a Mass resident, I lived on Rt. 9! I’ve traveled the entire pike and enjoyed this video.

Nope. No how. No way. Not gonna do it. I lived through a used 2001 VW once, fun car to drive but I think there was a movie made about it called “The Money Pit.”

Hopefully the “tech” who forgot to replace the drain plug wasn’t the person entrusted to replace the engine.
