Here in the ‘burbs, we have leaf blowers, every day of the week. Usually they just drone on full throttle, which is annoying. The neighbors have a new gardener, a bro, who blips his leaf blower throttle just like it’s a dirt bike - taking annoyance to a new level.

Here you go. Konig 500 cc outboard motor. Water cooled, rotary valve, variable length pipes. Alcohol fueled and a fantastic smell.

Check out the NYT article. It’s headline is about disproportionate jail sentences between urban and rural areas, but the subtext is war on drugs:

Smooth Talk - fantastic film.

Tang + Space Food Sticks. Mmmmmmm!

Yes. Look at the recent carrier plant(s) shutdown in Indiana. Loss of 1300 jobs because of labor rate differential between US ($20/hr) and Mexico ($3/hr). Trump says that he’s going to tax companies like Carrier who make these moves - this is something that will/may directly affect their lives. Dems haven’t done much

I wouldn’t want to be under a jacked car pounding on suspension bits with my leg, or even a hammer. Yikes.

Please elaborate.

David. Good catch. My reading suggests it depends on whether the EPA/CARB accept VW’s ability to differentiate - it seems that the criteria must be determined in advance and accepted by EPA/CARB.

The settlement calls for a 10 year/120k warranty for all emission control, the fuel system, the long block and the turbo.

Well, consider the warranty extensions in the settlement. 10 years on emissions, fuel system, turbo and long block. That’s a win for anyone who accepts the fix (if it becomes available.)

Accountable through your elected officials. By not being directly elected, we avoid tragedy of the commons scenarios. Though you may consider their choices too restrictive, they’ve done amazing things in California since their inception. Consider LA smog in the early 70s - here is an interesting article:

another point, no one has discussed the warranty extension, which takes a lot of risk out of owning one of these. For my ‘12, if I hold it, I’ll have an extended warranty of 12 years (from date of initial sale) or 120k miles. The warranty includes the emission control backend, the fuel system including HP system, the

The tables include not just the buyback value of the cars but the restitution payments, which range from $5,100 to around $9,800, depending on the year and make of the vehicle.

Go read the Krakauer book “under the banner of heaven”. One of the things I learned in the book had to do with the LDS belief system, where God talks to everyone, and everyone can be an instrument of God. Consequently, its easy for alternate perspectives to rise and splinter from the main religious body

Thanks. So what’s the design process - what parameters do you design to? Packaging, weight, existing components, .....

Genuinely curious. How many engine designers are there in the us/na/europe? How many new engines are designed each year? Is most of your time spent on extensions of existing blocks, e.g., new heads, valve trains, etc?

Probably not bad at 4-5 years. Maintenance increases at about 8 yrs and then skyrockets at 10.
