Malcolm X once opined on the successes of Martin Luther King, and he wondered whether it was purely because of the attractiveness of King’s idealism or if white people looked over King’s shoulder and saw him and the Nation of Islam waiting in the wings and decided King’s offered solution was preferable.
To more directly answer the question, it’s because of the disparity between the tactical and technological aspects of the war. WW1 was largely fought as is if were a 19th century European battle with armies marching shoulder-to-shoulder across an open field. Now, however, they were marching across an open field…
Surprise! It’s always been dumb. It just seems like it’s getting dumber as you become more aware of the dumbness. We are, however, making steady if slow improvment! If this were the 70s, Trump would win by a landslide. Now he only represents a measley 40% of America...
Fun Fact: When I was in High School, I once told a WWII veteran of the Pacific Theater that ‘the Japanese weren’t so bad.’
It was an artful expression of nihilistic impotence that served to highlight the existential dread of human existance. After watching this performance I stood on my balcony and gazed upon the naked city, hearing its futile cries into the infinite darkness.
Do I think there will be some? Maybe. Do I think there will be enough to change the outcome? No.
I feel like maybe you’ve taken this article entirely too seriously.
This is like that Winston Churchill quote, only devoid any wit.
That is not all he said. That’s not even close to all he said. He’s saying being famous gives you a free pass to sexually assault people. You can pass off a lot of what he says as ignorant bullshit, but this speaks to the core of this man’s shitty being: he thinks bring rich means that women are his playthings. He…
Hot Take: Protesting the national anthem is less disrespectful than insisting on singing every note in vibrato.
Fighting for the betterment of your country is the definition of patriotism. Using nationalism to shame dissenters is the definition of fascism.
I have the same feelings. First they throw shade at Kaepernick by talking about how ‘it’s not gonna be about an individual,’ and they they decide to ‘protest’ using the most milquetoast gesture imaginable; that’s something that college teams do all the time! Just because! It means nothing!
One might’ve said the same about crossing a bridge, but we know that’s not true. The value of a protest is in the reaction it gets and the discussion that follows. In those terms, this has been a very successful protest.
This is the whole fucking point of Kaepernick’s protest. This is why disrespecting those traditions we hold as automatic and ‘sacred’ is effective.
Does he ever not?
One of the biggest lessons that white Americans (like myself) have yet to fully grok is that it’s complete bullshit for the majority to tell an oppressed minority how they should be outraged.
Colin Kaepernick was spontaneously born a full-grown adult at a party.
Well, at least I get to be proud of *something* as a 49ers fan...
He might be; I don’t follow the behind-the-scenes stuff like I used to. But it would be an interesting angle when he comes back. They seem to be hinting at a loss of confidence after his Summer Slam match, and going for the IC title might be a good hook to try and rebuild it.
