Sounds like one of the most amazing lectures ever. Too bad this was in the days before every single person in the room had a camera phone in their pocket.
I love the last one, where the beak seems to come off the page. Great artwork. I wish I could draw things that appear even remotely like they do in my head. You're more likely to see better artwork on a refrigerator than on pages of my notebooks.
Wow — that's an excellent point! This video certainly illustrated it!
The only problem is distinguishing among the artists who got it completely wrong to the ones who nailed it. It certainly appears that an artist versed in astronomy could point people in the right direction. This artwork is amazing.
Right — for now. But it's easy enough to develop sound-canceling software that will enable scientists to 'hear' what they want to hear without having to be deafened by the crunching and the rushing blood and the gastric noises, and blinking, and your own thoughts. Damn it. Never mind. This is going to be a bit tricky.
I'm not normally a pilkunnussija, but I think you want to add an E onto that last word. Otherwise it (ahem) blows my mind.
Brilliant. And hearted. Thanks for a laugh and some memories.
Check out that website — it's awful. Maybe a few more diamonds spent on web design ...
I was lucky enough to travel to England on the a big cruise ship back in the 90s, my only such experience. Boy, they sure did go thru a lot of emergency practice procedures; it sorta ran on. But we appreciated it, and now I appreciate it a bit more.
Is this the greatest pun on io9 ever? If not, please point in me in the right direction.
Luckily for us, this is only Chinese air that's getting polluted. I'm glad they're not polluting our air. That would suck.
Mitch Hedberg, on sesame seeds. He'd appreciate this story; he thought they were pretty pointless, but now he'd be happy that at last the lowly sesame can help blind people in South Africa.
Yeah — how DO they move it? Sections, I imagine. It must be pretty heavy.
Wow — I really admire your approach. It's much like ours, but I feel like we're a bit in the minority on this. You're certain right about it being a fine line, part of which has to do with knowing your kid, but of course, part of knowing your kid is helping that kid turn into the kid you're proud of in the first…
You're right; it should have said "could."
I'm looking forward to my youngest joining the GSs next month, and she's excited as all get out. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the cookie sales. I just wish they made them with better ingredients. High fructose corn syrup, still? Trans fats? No thanks.
They asked me how I knew
Wow!
I was wondering the same thing.
