been using windows 7 as my primary OS since it was in beta. it has actually changed the way I use my computer. i rarely use the mouse any more, and i seem to use the search dialogue (win key) much more often for accessing various control panel items. that is probably the same in vista... but i only used vista for a

Does this scan music from your own collection? Or is it some rhapsody type streaming crap?

@infmom: wouldnt that result in you not hearing titles with names beginning with "z" for instance? What if you wanted to relax, and some death metal came on next? I wouldnt think you would always enjoy a playlist that eclectic?

Does anyone have any suggestions for backing up / syncing my large 500gb mp3 collection? I have used syncback which seems to work well, but I am always in the market for a better solution. My external drive has a majority of my collection on it, however it has been a long time since my last 'sync'. I would like to

@tommertron: I completely agree... that is what I do with my foobar2000. Genre and Subgenre tags along with playlist_tree_mod. Actually this can be achieved by just adding multiple values for the genre tag and then use genre has x and genre has y and genre does not have z...

@paintbox: I read on cnet once how to wear my earbuds with the wire over the ear, and even though it is a very simple tip, it really helped, and I may not have thought to do it had I not read the tip.

I think that excellent tags are the best way to create solid playlists. I personally use foobar2000 with the playlist_tree_mod component. I am able to make fairly complex dynamic playlists. Here is an example that I will play when my girlfriend or someone with mild taste will be listening as well.....

@infmom: are you being sarcastic?

@bobbo33: create custom id tags ... something like sub genre or wholikes and enter multiple values such as bobby, sue, etc... then you can make dynamic playlists with itunes or foobar2000(with playlist tree mod plugin). create playlists where sub genre HAS bobby AND genre HAS rock AND NOT (rating LESS 3) etc....

@thebigcheese: Shure make outstanding buds, and if you wear them with the wire over your ear, they are very comfortable. I prefer the "plunger" shaped tips. I would wear them on the bus or BART (subway) and have no problem tuning out all the loud ambient noise.

@pkl007: i spent over a hundred on a pair of sure e4c buds years ago and never regretted the purchase at all. I felt that with some music they actually sounded better than my over-the-ear Sennheisers I have at home.

@whiteflea: Why the hell would you ever wear cheap ear buds?

@stedman15: museum or aquarium and or mushrooms

@Arvedui: As a last resort you can try to swap the platter...
