Those goal posts must be heavy every time you lift them
She’s not a great orator. She’d be the first to tell you that. I listened to a podcast recently (I think it was the 538 one) that talked about the fact that a lot of what she’s GREAT at (building consensus, one-on-one interactions, bringing people over to her side, quietly commanding the respect of everyone who deals…
No, but do you deny that it’s true? You act like she has never worked a day. Warren might have beaten her but guess what, Warren didn’t run. And now Warren is throwing her support behind Clinton because she recognizes women take many paths to success and raising up one helps everyone.
“500 years ago, the word meant “x”” isn’t particularly relevant. Language evolves a lot over time, and these days the term “hectoring” is applied most often to women lecturing men.
It’s astounding that after 40 years of working in the public sector for the rights of children, people with disabilities, women and minorities, Clinton STILL doesn’t get any credit, and any achievements she has are dismissed as her husband’s doing.
Hey, I caught an old Friends episode the other day. They made a joke about President Clinton and her husband. In 1996. And I clearly remember there being a ton of jokes about having two presidents at the time.
So basically you want someone who is a good public speaker over someone who can do a good job.
FYI, I’m not a Hillary fangirl and found her neither insincere or robotic. She didn’t sound stilted or strange to me. She’s just not as gifted an orator as Obama or her husband. (And I think Obama is better than Bill.)
No campaign is flawless, nor would anyone expect anything involving human being to be flawless, so I…
Her ap shared a picture of her looking SO HAPPY with balloons all around and it made me so happy too.
It was always fun watching “W” go off-script and ad-lib.
Criticizing her for her literal voice is something very, very different from criticizing her skills as an orator.
Oh, that’s the whole point! Speak too confidently, and you’re a shrill ball-buster. Speak more softly, and you’re a frilly weakling who just doesn’t have the gumption to be a real leader. The secret is that there is no middle ground. It’s an unwinnable game!
Now you’re just flying off the rails away from what we’re talking about, which is whether her oratory skills are sufficient, and where criticisms of her speech go from being legitimate to being sexist. 10 years of planning can’t change the fact that she doesn’t have the same natural speaking ability as people like her…
Screw the tone of voice, I want someone in charge of the nuclear codes who knows how to say and spell nuclear. I survived 8 years of “nu-cu-lar”, they’ll survive 8 years of a president without a penis.
You know the first time I have ever seen her act like the person that people have met her describe her as, rather than the persona that she's been forced to create is when all those balloons came down from the celling? Her simple unguarded joy made me burst into tears.
They’ve been doing it for the last thirtyish years....why stop now?
Get used to it. They’re going to complain about her voice, her tone, her not smiling enough, her face, her hair, her clothes for the next 8 years. But not because they’re sexist or anything.
Bizarre Hillary attacks won’t go away in November. Just ask Obama.
Short answer: the problem is that voice comes out of a Vagina-American.
so what do they want? some breathless sweet little girl voice?
