I honestly don’t blame anyone for not buying that ELR. Even with a $40,000 discount off of the original MSRP, it’s still a $10,000 hit the second someone buys it. Average 3rd row unibody SUV is about 28,900- 31,500 base pricing (with the exception of Kia/Hyundia, but I don’t know to many people that want a 3700lb 4cyl SUV). If they’re cheaper, it’ll be like the current market, which is about $300.

I totally get it, I’ve seen a lot of Explorers in person, and they’re a bit slimmer. To me it was the lift gate shape and rear fenders that looked explorer to me.

It definitely looks good, but to be honest if you took off the VW badge, I would’ve easily thought this was a new Ford Explorer. The interior is pretty close too.
