Moffatt and Gattiss's approach with "Sherlock" has been to take elements of the canon, rearrange them into a generally clever way, and then drop a ton of Easter eggs into the proceeding all while patting itself on the back for how original it is. (I do like "Sherlock", don't get me wrong.)

This seems like the most Moffat/Cumberbatchesque episode thus far—lots of elements of an ACD story, in this case "The Adventure of the Cardboard Box", with odd little twists reminding us that it it's still Sherlock Holmes in the 21st Century. But the resolution of the ears just seemed silly

The handshake has an elaborate history that Crane, cultured fellow that he is, knows all about.

Oh, yeah, I'm totally psyched about a possible in-depth examination of the rise and fall of the American Ninja series.
