Soo you guys are doubling down on banning cars?
1. “ the new movie is all about debating Starfleet’s philosophies.”
- That have never been established or executed, at all.
2. ““Why is Kirk doing what he’s doing?” Lin asked. “We assume on the TV show that [joining Starfleet] is just something he did, but I want to know why. Are you going to continue? What’s the…
“It’s not in the same league as the first two Star Wars films, but that’s probably not a fair comparison. Nor is it a great film, on the level of Mad Max: Fury Road.”
hmm...that’s disconcerting. Kinda seems like all the built up hype just turned into rationalizing acceptance, like settling for less because it would be…
Should of shouted “chocolate fountain!” and b-lined for it. I’d have believed it, George
agreed but that’s also the definition of semantics and I’m not quite sure how that advances the conversation in any direction.
Not quite - it a national policy built out from the infrastructure of cities where cars are hopefully independent but wildly inefficient.
what are you a monster?
That’s kind of semantics, but fair enough! I’m from a similarly sized town (little bit bigger) but its also served by a commuter rail, which is a super effective way of going to the Big City.
It is wildly inefficient and incredibly infuriating. Have you noticed how every car you’re stuck in gridlock traffic with has one person in it? Its ridiculous. And yes, off all the shitty options, its the least shitty. What the author is proposing is no longer accepting the shitty options and building a new and better…
Because cars are wildly inefficient and a huge waste of space and resources - resources that cost energy and more resources to make. Seriously, on your next drive home just look at the cars around you. Most have one fucking person in them. It’s an inefficient novelty that can absolutely be improved upon. I honestly…
Job creation! Just like the fucking federal highways, canal systems, and railroads.
“Why am I not allowed by buy my own zero-emission vehicle?”
I am suspicious this is the true crux of your concerns. The only honest answer is for you to get over yourself. Sorry if that hurts, I really don’t mean it to, no sarcasm, but seriously, your owning a car isn’t important in the grand scheme of society.
As for…
it doesn’t exist yet though...and really, LA is your example of how effective car culture is? Have you ever tried to drive more than 2 miles in LA?
You missed a spot.
“And if you don’t live in a city—or don’t want to—banning cars benefits you, too. Besides the obvious health benefits, more efficient transportation systems will make it easier to get where you need to go and reduce the overall costs of goods and services brought to your door. If you need a vehicle…
no the thesis is definitely to ban cars in cities then expand on that infrastructure to rural areas with a limited fleet of independent zero emission vehicles. Pretty sure you don’t have to walk until then.
umm sure but 80% of Americans live in urban areas...
so are hot takes before reading said article.
If this blog post were in 70mm IMAX would it be easier to read the list?
