I was interested in this show, but the trailer annoyed me because the music sounded more like 2000s-era World Cafe Live-type music than actual ‘70s classic rock. And that’s the story of how I didn’t watch a TV show.

couldn’t possibly be put better.

Well, sure. We identify with Broderick and then spend the arc of the film learning about what happens if we follow the dark path of temptation. And by watching Broderick’s character bottom out, we realize that Flick wasn’t the villain after all. His extremely petty revenge at the end of the film underscores this - his

Tracy Flick is not the villain of Election, she is only the villain to Matthew Broderick’s character, who is very clearly the one who is in the wrong and is thoroughly punished for his misdeeds. This is not some secret, subtextual reading - it is the explicit plot of the film. Flick wins, Broderick loses, justice is

dadah dadah da da - I.. am.. your singing telegram *spoiler*

This would have been a great way to do it. And go ahead and keep the roadie guy from Yesterday, unchanged.

Residuals? Absolutely. A charitable arts grant? Sounds great. Creative input on all future sequels, merch, or brand rights? Ummmmmmm good luck with that one, guys.

‘Yesterday’ is the worst kind of bad movie - it’s such an interesting premise, one you could definitely tell a cool story with - but it drops the ball by focusing entirely on the rom-com part of it. And it was our only chance to do it - there will never be another movie about a world where only one person remembers

True, but if you look closely you’ll notice that they’re dressed very similar.  It’s not the focal point of the sketch but I thought it was a fun easter egg for B&B fans.

Bold choice to go with the merch-only ‘Skull’ and ‘Death Rock’ versions of Beavis & Butt-head, instead of the canonical AC/DC and Metallica.

I nominate Danny McBride

Well if capitalism continues unfettered after this movie comes out, we’ll know who to blame.

I had a friend who believed the same - in part because he misremembered the doc as being on the History Channel instead of SciFi. Funny that back in 1999 the History Channel was considered a trustworthy source instead of your #1 stop for aliens and conspiracy theories.

Why do people listen to their favorite songs and albums over and over instead of finding a new song, listening to it once, then never listening to it again?

There’s... not a lot going on here that makes it a Tenacious D cover, as opposed to just a Jack Black cover.  Would have loved some type of KG solo or something.

This made me go back and check the timeline - turns out both shows premiered in the U.S. at almost exactly the same time. DBZ made its Toonami debut on August 31st, 1998, and Pokemon premiered in the U.S. on Sept. 8th, 1998.  I remember Pokemon REALLY catching on in 1999 more than 1998.

Transformers isn’t anime! The original toys were repackaged from Japanese toy lines, but the Transformers IP and the cartoon were fully American productions.

Super Mario World is just perfect. It’s the ultimate distillation of everything the SMB series brought to video gaming. The level designs are inspired and endlessly inventive. The movement is intuitive, but very deep (you can do SO MUCH with the cape!) The character designs are filled with personality. There are

Make no mistake - Dragon Ball Z was THE flashpoint for anime going mainstream in the U.S. When Cartoon Network started airing it on Toonami, it was an immediate sensation. Anime dubs and manga translations began pouring into America. That led to the rise of Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh and other titles, and anime really never

Dragon Ball Z airing on Toonami was THE flashpoint for anime becoming mainstream in the U.S. There were occasional anime dubs in the U.S. throughout the 80s and 90', but outside of Voltron no real big hits (and even Voltron wasn’t nearly as popular as the big 80's cartoons like Transformers or He-Man). Even DBZ
