HOT TAKE: I would rather listen to this version than regular Wonderwall
“All of it launched and overseen and funded by the leathery pinhead who has spent the past half-century not turning professional wrestling into one of the most popular sports in America...”
Clash At Demonhead
The opening cutscene of NGII is one of the most indelible moments in 8-bit gaming history. I used to fire up this game all the time just to watch it. The lightning crashes, the foreboding clouds, the looming villain, and that incredible music that starts slowly and builds to an absolute frenzy.
First game I thought of is Wall Street Kid for NES. It’s slow, repetitive, and dull, but somehow it has enough oddball charm that I still enjoy playing through it every once in a while.
For high school English class (circa 1992 or so) we had to give an instructional speech, and my speech was how to beat this level. I recorded myself playing through the level on a VHS tape to play along with the speech, even having Mega Man stop a couple times while I gave a little extra narration. I saved the Time…
I think the idea that evangelical Christians hate Jews and believe they’re going to hell is largely a misconception, honestly. I mean, it’s possible that it’s out there somewhere, but I grew up *very* steeped in that world (son of a pastor, Christian schools, Christian college) and hate for Jews was just not part of…
This is a very good ranking. I mean, I rank Zooropa #1, but I don’t expect anyone else to do that. I’m over the moon that it ranks third.
Reading about the new features reminded me of this Extra Credits video from earlier this year about strategy games:
yep, it was once I started ripping albums onto my ipod that I realized we’d played ourselves with all these cd gimmicks
My favorite* example of this is the first Mercury Rev album _Yerself is Steam_ . The final listed song, ‘Very Sleepy River’, is split into tracks 10-98 (most of them four seconds long) then track 99 is the unlisted song ‘Car Wash Hair’. Hidden tracks were practically standard by the mid-90's, it was disappointing if…
Dirk Nowitzki has seen this all before:
on a related note, I noticed during the Chiefs/Eagles game that the Chiefs had a tight end wearing #88 - how have they not retired Tony Gonzalez’ number?!?
I was mystified by Trump cutting himself off mid-sentence at 8:30, then finally finishing the thought 3 hours later (sending the Peggy Whitson tweet in between)
lol I watched some of the coachella livestream and one of the bands (I think it was Grouplove) mentioned from the stage that they just saw Ian MacKaye backstage.
Minor note - Josh Shapiro is the Pennsylvania State Attorney General, not the Philadelphia AG
I name the lead character “BUTT” in almost every single rpg I play. Fun fact: I’m a grown man.
puwexil in particular is great on commentary for RPG speedruns from the NES and SNES era. I’m fascinated by RPG speedruns because rather than relying on breakneck dexterity, they’re all about careful route planning and an intricate knowledge of the game’s programming.
After perusing the lineup (I recognize maybe 20% of the names) I have a new favorite band and it’s King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
