The subtext of this lawsuit is: How embarrassing if amateurs make a better Star Trek film than us Hollywood people.

Before WWII anti-antisemitism was most marked in the German states and cities that had the FEWEST Jews…

Just watched the Suicide Squad trailer, and I lost count of the number of recycled tropes they managed to compress into three minutes. Yes, what a triumph of packaging.

I actually watched the trailer… This heart-warming story, and by-the-numbers characters, should be perfect for your 95 year-old Croatian great-grandmother who doesn't actually speak English.

This is a great analysis. In my opinion, they turned Star Trek into a Toyota Camry / Applebees experience. They would rather have a movie that a lot of people like, rather than something a few love… Its actually a very risky business plan, because - yes - one dud, and the customer is going across the street to

Apparently, the costume designer really went crazy - leather jackets from Banana Republic, dark T-shirts from The Gap, and jeans from JCP. Very cool.

We also would have accepted 'janitor.'

I think its pretty clear at this point that Abrams has a problem grasping how to do an original story, characters, etc. Its like he's a proficient second-unit director who got pushed into the big leagues, and lacks the confidence (or vision) to do anything except broad references and recycled plot lines. So yup,

Agreed. This shameless tactic shouts 'hack!' as loud as anything; it attempts to raise the stakes in the story in the most manipulative way possible. The Enterprise is a character on its own, and I can't stand to see the way directors just treat it like any other plot device.

Thanks for the finding that clip! Bamford is becoming among my favorite comedians, for reasons that are very apparent in that great little number.

I refer to such people as prequel apologists, Jar Jar denialists, or Vader truthers.

My ex-mechanic is one… Last time I was there, he was literally building a loft above his shop, so - yes - he never has to go anywhere. He also gets to wake up in the morning and look down on a field of junked cars! I have to say, it was sort of rewarding to know that someone who uses the phrase "war on white people"

The theater played a preview for this Ron Howard schlock, and there were literally laughs in the crowd.

You may have a point, as we have all noticed that people who cling to their guns like a baby clings to a pacifier have ZERO personality problems, are well-balanced, respond to reasoned constitutional arguments politely and logically, and are also entirely rational people… Clearly there are no larger psychological

This is what, I think, is called a 'get'. Free beer for the staff of the AVClub!

Re: Spike Lee giving no fucks…

Remember when Runners World was the only journalistic entity that bothered to check on VP candidate Paul Ryan's bullshit boast that he ran a marathon in under three hours (once and for all truly exposing this man as a serial liar)? All this took was a few phone calls.

I want to upvote this forty times, but I only get one.

Well (just my opinion) but bigotry is not rebellion, and it is far more than simply 'going against the zeitgeist'…

Good point. 'The supposedly good guy at the top' is the REAL kingpin is now as hackneyed as the 'The butler did it'.
