For most of my adult life I lived in Appalachia, and not too far from where this happened. The economy is a big reason I left, but drugs also played into my decision. Yes, drugs are everywhere, but the combination of poverty, hopelessness, and Appalachian fatalism made the area especially ripe for massive levels of

“So 4 to 1 odds her ex is her brother or cousin?”

WHERE ARE THE KITTENS!!! I WAS PROMISED KITTENS!!!!

That is so sad and devastating. I’ve never watched these shows or thought of them - considering the content it is nothing more than exploitation of suffering and death.

Wow, that is horrible. I’m not a huge fan of reality TV but, while I get the trashy appeal of a Real Housewife flip a restaurant table, why on earth would I want to witness a stranger’s last moments as he dies in pain?

He’s pretty funny. My favourite line from the article is about how long black church services are. I was raised Muslim (Somali) and the first time I went to a black church was for an Easter play at a Seventh Day Adventist Church (largely W. Indian. It's sorta infamous in Toronto for having a shooting at a funeral for

Even starting a hashtag campaign? ‘Cuz all I see her doing is the usual complaining and throwing Black people under the bus for speaking up for ourselves and lamenting that her group isn’t as visible, as if we have something to do with that. Who said anything about girls? Wasn’t there a guy who studied grizzlies and was mauled by one? It’s human nature to become attached to animals because they’re childlike.

They come from a long tradition of brutal exploitation, so many people do not trust this new raison d’etre.

That’s what I was thinking. Like, really, I could care less if he was dealing. I think it should be legal and taxed and maybe this guy could have made a better life for himself and his son if that were the case, BUT that was not for personal use. Not even for two people.

He wasn’t “just” growing weed. He was growing weed because he was a drug dealer.

look i dont support this guys sentence, and i think it should be legal- but LOL at the idea of anyone harvesting 42 plants for personal use. he was a dealer.

I don’t think anyone should serve jail time for marijuana, but no need to put growing operation in quotes. 42 plants is exactly that. I would be more likely to put “personal use” in quotes. That’s a lot of marijuana.

Here ya go - reopening soon after a water main burst flooded it a couple years ago.
