Someone I know worked in a minor role on a class-action case against Vaginal Mesh manufacturers and to hear some of the horror stories—pain, fusing with organs, a shredded penis., divorces from an inability to have sex. Just horrible, horrible stuff.

If ModCloth experienced immaculate conception via Anthropologie, these Insta accounts would be the baby Jesus, and I would root for Pontius Pilate.

Eric Trump genuinely seems like the type of guy who would be lost without his wife. Legally, she can’t leave him at this point without finding him a suitable home.

Noooo! You are giving them what they want. But, then again, who cares?

I let out a big sigh when I read this. There’s no way she doesn’t know what’s happening.

I don’t think she’s ignorant. She hates the Rohingya and Muslims just as much as everyone else.

It’s a reminder that democratization and tolerance/respect for human rights do not necessarily to go hand in hand. In contrast, it can often take the lid off of and exacerbate ethnic tensions and xenophobia - see late 19th century/early-to-mid-20th century Europe, or the 19th century US.

Bearing witness is an important part of helping people cope with trauma. Telling their stories and feeling heard may actually help their recovery, long term.

Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s civilian leader and a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, lacks the authority to fully address the situation—though a Human Rights Watch spokesman asserted that she has allowed herself to be misled about what’s really going on

This bit seems a little irresponsible: “Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s civilian leader and a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, lacks the authority to fully address the situation—though a Human Rights Watch spokesman asserted that she has allowed herself to be misled about what’s really going on”

“my kids were moderately behaved, but they were bouncing around in their seats, looking out the window, peaking around to the seats behind them, etc. no one said a peep.”

They were tied up from someone who could have been in genuine harm that wasn’t of their own doing.

That’s your take? A guy voluntarily sticks his head in a microwave, fills it with an expanding, hardening substance, and then films it with the intention of profiting from it... and you come away from all of that saying that the FIRE DEPARTMENT should be ashamed of themselves for calling out his idiocy?

not you though, mikey. never you.

It’s going to be like postwar Germany, where basically zero people supported the Nazis during their rise to power.
