Like a lot of folks, I assumed this model’s atrocious styling was seen alongside other models with neatly styled, “model-type” hair, when in fact all of the models in the shoot were styled in a purposeful “quick/messy pull my hair back and who cares about flyaways”…

I agree with you. I was talking about being a dom. Doms, like anyone else, can commit assault. I wasn’t implying the two go hand-in-hand. I’ll have to be more careful with my word choice.

Ah! Willingness on the parts of all participants is absolutely required, yes.

Could be wrong, but my understanding is that we’re looking at the phenomenon known as being a DOM (“dominant”), but even on the end of the spectrum, it’s behavior that’s considered extreme; when dominance turns into ownership.
