Ah, “properly”. Yes. I have a feeling the alternative approach involves a bunch of shims of various sizes that are fit in different permutations for each model. Or maybe there is a more universal backplate that can be drilled out in different ways to fit mounting holes in different models.

If anything, they’re much smaller now. Aside from maybe different wiring, don’t you think they could just put spacers in there or something? Maybe I’m just naive to the technology involved, but it seems like putting a new airbag in an old car is a lot easier than trying to take an older design airbag and fit it into a

That steering wheel looks like it came out of a bowrider.

It never occurred to me to subtract it out. My feeling is, calculating 20-25% from the total is easy, and even if the custom was to not tip on alcohol, I’d still take the easy route because my time and energy is worth more than the difference to me.

I think I’ve even seen a caterham with a 1” windshield and a wiper mounted to the hood that can’t even wipe the actual glass. Can’t remember where I saw that (on Jalop probably).

I love it when his buddy pinches him.

I think technically it has to from a road-legal perspective.

Finest kind.

Not pictured: tremendous engine sounds. Like a bald eagle gargling freedom.

Suprisingly little drama in that lap given the power involved. Very tidy driving.

You’re right. They’re special snowflakes and I applaud their efforts.

A well-reasoned response. I agree in principle with much of what you say. I think my major hangup is in hitching this exercise specifically to the “hyperloop” concept, when in reality the development presented above could apply to any tube or track-based mechanism that requires long uninterrupted runs and results in

We could definitely use a space elevator, it would be transformational, but we can’t figure out how to make one. We don’t have the materials to engineer one today. So designing a pretty elevator car makes no sense.

Seems like an exercise in grabbing the lowest hanging fruit. Why don’t we worry about this stuff after we have figured out a way to viably scale it? That would seem better than trying to figure out how to load people into a tube that you’re just guessing for size, shape, etc.

Yes I got hung up on that as well.

Your words hold great sway over the lives of men. Pay heed.
