It completely depends on where you live. I live in a wealthy town with lots of high tech work. It’s around 500k people in the area. Nearest Bus Stop is about 90 miles away. Nearest subway is a around 200 miles away. So, mass transit isn’t an option here.

I am fully in favor of public transportation... for other people.
