Dear Blizzard,
Dear Blizzard,
Not breaking news so much as “Repeating our top story...”
“Breaking News: Mike Milbury is an asshole FROM BOSTON”
Breaking News: Mike Milbury is an asshole.
If the creative people with whom Anita Sarkeesian meets have so little conviction in their work that they wilt to her whims the moment she talks about what she values in the depiction of women in games, that’s on them, no?
As a male gamer, I feel like I got my money’s worth from her videos. =)
Nobody beyond you cares if consider what anyone else does to be work.
Mmmm, the smell of jealousy.
Sarkeesian’s project, if nothing else, helped propel a lot of discussion about women and games, about what matters and what doesn’t. And she got it all done before Valve could even release Half-Life 3.
Acquire wrote it as “KKK” without intending to make a reference to the American KKK, changing it from that is actually a good localization choice. To keep it “KKK” would have introduced a meaning to the phrase that wasn’t in the original language and that the original developers didn’t intend.
This isn’t censorship, this is one guy trying to defend a bad joke that has no basis in the original text. It even says outright that the original name is a pun on light switches. What in the hell do light switches have to do with a radicalized Christian terrorist group?
But he was the one who made the joke. The Japanese did not make the joke involving the KKK, the translator did. They’re saying “no, you can’t make that joke based on your interpretation of the translation.”
“I wanted to make a statement,” localization specialist Tom Lipschultz wrote in an e-mail. “I don’t think it’s right to make any change, no matter how minor, for the purpose of ‘sanitizing’ a game.”
This sounds less like censorship and more like a translator taking liberties that he happens to find funny. And then getting upset when other people didn’t agree with him.
The fact that it isn’t a lifetime ban should be considered extremely lenient--I’m frankly surprised that he’s even appealing.
Is it just me or 18 months doesn’t seem like that much for this shit?
1) Joey Barton has always been, and always will be a douche.
2) Placing a prop bet on himself for getting the first yellow in the match is easy money. He’s a fool for betting on his own matches but not making the obvious bet.
Well, this seems pretty cut and dry, folks. The whole situation kind of stinks, but it’s hard to feel sorry for the guy when he’s being this stupid in front of a massive audience. Otherwise, I think Toronto Esports did the right thing.
I love how people think that saying it’s a joke somehow negates the fact they’re being racist or sexist. Who cares it’s only a joke!! Said every bully ever.
Nobody has a sense of humor anymore? How was this comment even remotely funny? One of the most powerful men in the country is a racist who doesn’t seem to understand how 101 level government works and serves under a president who knows even less. Fucking hilarious.
