So I’m genuinely puzzled by the implementation of the shark fin on this car.

I agree. The only angle that I don’t like on the current Gen2 car is when the camera is directly aimed at the front of the car (which is most of the race), and this looks much, much better.

They’re 18'’ all-weather tyres, which they chose mainly for efficiency purposes, since they don’t need to have tyre changes during the race.

Would you prefer they handle it like other manufacturers? As in, leave the sport every time things don’t go your way for a while?

Not sure if you can blame the comments when the article is so prejudiced.

They’re not getting $100M for showing up. It’s estimated at $73M, per Liberty’s own figures, which is enough to not even have to exaggerate to prove your point. The article also conveniently overlooks the fact that Mercedes & Red Bull ($35M each) and Williams ($10M) get additional bonuses which are effectively based

Twice. Fernando has been a (key?) factor in McLaren losing both Mercedes and Honda works deals.

That’s a fairly common misconception about Fernando. It’s not really true.

His criticism was never at Honda USA. It was F1 related (and while accurate it wasn’t very productive), and Honda already kind of do have their shit together over there.

Yep, it’s amazing and incredibly sad that a guy who was a two-time F1 world champion by the age of 25 has pretty much become a cautionary tale for up-and-coming drivers.

You don’t actually believe that, do you?

I love Alonso, but he can’t be managed.

I don’t think Aston will become Mercedes’ works team, per se. And I don’t see Stroll buying another team either. If Mercedes sells their shares in Mercedes AMG F1 to anyone, it’s highly likely it’ll be Toto Wolff taking majority control. He’s already 30% owner and CEO of the operation.

using f1 -the most overvalued form of advertising there is-

To be a works team, you need to either build your own engines or be supported by an engine partner who not only develops, but also finances that development, primarily for you. McLaren isn’t a works team anymore since their switch to Renault, whereas Red Bull has become a works team since their move to Honda.

I mean, there’s no way that Aston Martin will be a full works team immediately in 2021. Developing a semi-competitive power unit can’t be done in a year. Ask Honda. And financially it just doesn’t seem to make sense for a company like Aston Martin to pump money into a project when your minority shareholder already has

No, Red Bull had an exclusivity clause. Basically, if AM wanted out of the deal, they couldn’t sponsor/support another F1 team for an x amount of time. Red Bull waived that clause.

That’s a fairly ignorant way of thinking short term. The Novel Coronavirus seems to have a significantly higher mortality rate (~2%, though it’s an estimation at this point as it’s impossible to say how many cases have been unreported) than the common flu (<0,01%), which mostly kills people with weakened immune

Still haven’t seen any confirmation that it’s going to be a ‘true’ works team. With Daimler also holding a minority share in AML, they could just keep using Mercedes power units and re-brand them.
