1. The Fit (not a Prius) and the TL appeared to be racing, or at least toying with each other. The TL takes off like a bat out of hell at one point, and the Fit appears to follow a bit later.

You're correct, they tend to. The post-2004 models don't, however, and those generations are the ones where the Forester XT was/is offered in the US.

So it's got close to 200,000 miles on it (most of the distance from here to the moon), it's a fixer-upper, it's from Indiana so there will be lots of rust (compared to CA cars), and it's a friggin automatic... and they want $15,000?!
